Zink the Zebra Patch Program

This patch program for all ages has been designed to give girls a sense of awareness of and appreciation for individual differences; foster compassion and respect for others; practice the life skills of positive interaction and an opportunity for community service.

“Zink the Zebra,” the story of a little spotted zebra, was written by Kelly Weil, an eleven year old girl who eventually lost her battle with cancer. This story is the basis for understanding how it feels to be different.

There is a different step by step program designed for each age level, Daisy through Senior. The program fee of $8.50 per girl includes:

  1. A program folder with activity instructions and materials for the leader
  2. A storybook or video tape for the troop (depending upon the age level)
  3. An adorable, fuzzy stuffed beanbag zebra for each girl
  4. A patch for each girl

The program can be completed in the course of one or two troop meetings.

Fit for a Princess

A Junior Patch Program Sponsored by the Georgia Beef Board and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, this patch program for Junior Girl Scouts teaches girls about the importance of healthy eating and exercise.

A fun and entertaining reader’s theater play centering on the importance of ZIP (zinc, iron, and protein) is designed to be rehearsed at your troop meeting and performed for parents or younger children as a service project.

To complete the Princess ZIP patch, girls choose four more food, physical activity, or creative experiences from their activity booklets. Activities can be easily completed in two troop meetings.

After registering your troop for this program, you will receive:

  1. A leader's guide with patch activity instructions, tips, badge links, activities and crafts.
  2. An activity booklet for each girl.
  3. A patch for each girl.

Pen Pal Network

Girl Scouts of the USA has a Pen Pal network for Brownie through Senior age level troops. Troops are linked with a troop in another council to correspond troop-to-troop, not on an individual basis. Troops are "on their honor" to exchange letters for a minimum of one year. Troops that wish to participate should contact Lyn Thomas at extension 133. Girl Scouts of Middle Georgia will make a link for you as soon as possible. There is no charge!
